I was first introduced to Proprioceptive Writing in 1991 at a five day retreat at Omega Institute. I was struggling with the loss of a long-term relationship and I found a great deal of solace during the retreat as I wrote about this loss. At the end of five days, I felt clearer than I had in months. I maintained a practice for a few years, but life took over and I stopped writing. However, I never forgot my profound experience with PW, and I always intended to return to it some day.
When I retired in 2008 from a corporate career as a diversity director, I resumed a PW practice and then studied with Linda Trichter Metcalf, and became certified to teach PW in 2009. Since then, I’ve taught in New York City, Florida, Saranac Lake, NY, Ottawa, Canada, and at Wisdom House in Litchfield, CT. I’ve also taught using Zoom and conference calls and I’ve had many private students. I’m a faculty member at the Proprioceptive Writing Center and help to train new instructors, and I happily volunteer for the Center and serve on its board.
I live in Saranac Lake, New York in the midst of the amazing Adirondack Mountains.
